Doechii: Billboard's Next Music Icon Shines Bright as Woman of the Year

Doechii Set to Shine as Billboard’s 2025 Woman of the Year!

Doechii is making headlines once again as she is set to be honored as Billboard’s 2025 Woman of the Year at an event later this month. This prestigious recognition marks another key development in her impressive career within the rap genre, following a succession of hit tracks including “No Scrubs” and “Denial is a River,” the latter of which reached No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The Tampa-born artist has had an incredible year, capped by her Grammy victory in January for Best Rap Album with her project “Alligator Bites Never Heal.” This achievement made her only the third woman ever to take home this award, highlighting her trailblazing influence in a predominantly male industry. During her first appearance at the Grammys, Doechii wowed audiences with a powerful performance of both “Denial is a River” and “Catfish,” further establishing her creative presence.

With five songs charting on the Billboard Hot 100, including collaborations with notable artists like Tyler the Creator on “Balloon” and Jennie on “ExtraL,” she has showcased exceptional versatility that resonates with fans. Her prior recognition as Billboard’s Music Rising Star in 2023 set the stage for her remarkable accomplishments, which have followed.

The upcoming Billboard Women in Music event promises to be a celebration of female talent, featuring multiple award recognitions. Alongside Doechii, Jennie will receive the Songwriter of the Year award, while Erykah Badu is to be honored with the Breakthrough Award. Meghan Trainor will also receive the Hitmaker Award. The event will include performances from a diverse lineup of artists such as Ángela Aguilar, aespa, GloRilla, Gracie Abrams, Megan Moroney, Muni Long, and Tyla, emphasizing the evening’s theme of female empowerment in music.

Hannah Karp, editor-in-chief of Billboard, commended Doechii for her “ultra-candid lyrics and utterly unique sound,” underscoring her growing prominence in the music scene. Past winners of the Woman of the Year title include music powerhouses like SZA, Billie Eilish, and Taylor Swift, reflecting the esteemed company Doechii is joining.

This accolade not only honors Doechii’s artistry but also highlights the progress in diversity and representation within the music industry, serving as an inspiration for emerging artists to share their voices. As the industry evolves, Doechii’s journey represents a positive narrative of potential and success for many aspiring musicians.
