Reverend Dr. Semisi Turagavou, President of the Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma, proclaimed a divine mandate for leadership during a church service for the newly installed Tui Ba, Ratu Sowani Cava, held yesterday. The title of Tui Ba had remained vacant for several years following the death of the previous chief, Marama Na Tui Ba Adi Laite Koroirua, in 2017.

The event united villagers from Nailaga and the broader province of Ba, all expressing their readiness to support their new chief. The installation ceremony commenced with a church service at the Mary Ballantine Memorial Chapel at 10 AM, featuring traditional warriors, known as bati, escorting Ratu Sowani to the chapel’s entrance.

Inside the church, Reverend Turagavou led a solemn procession to bestow blessings upon the chief, emphasizing the divine nature of Ratu Sowani’s leadership. He acknowledged that some might doubt Ratu Sowani’s God-given role, stating that such skepticism would not hinder the leadership ordained by God.

In response, Ratu Sowani affirmed his commitment to his people, promising to serve them with diligence, dignity, and honor. A thanksgiving service is scheduled for today (Sunday) to express gratitude for the successful traditional installation ceremony, highlighting the community’s unity and hope for a prosperous future under their newly appointed leader.
