A significant cadet passing-out parade was held at Levuka Public School, where over 400 students showcased remarkable discipline and precision, an achievement accomplished within just two and a half weeks of training. Under the intense sun of Ovalau, the students, dressed in full uniform, demonstrated their skills in executing drill commands, saluting, and synchronized formations, earning applause from their families and teachers.
Principal Seru Banuve emphasized that the event not only represents a celebration of the students’ hard work but also aligns with the school’s culture of discipline. “The cadetship is just like a program. The discipline is already there, so it wasn’t too difficult to get this done,” Banuve remarked.
The parade was the third of its kind at Levuka Public School, and Banuve praised the students’ commitment and teamwork, stating, “They knew what was expected, and they delivered.” The successful execution of the parade speaks volumes about the students’ ability to adhere to training under tight time constraints.
Year 12 student Akuila Michael, who participated in the cadet program last year, shared how the experience has positively impacted his approach to discipline. Michael stated that the program provides invaluable lessons on time management and commitment, adding, “There were a lot of cardio exercises, like press-ups and running, especially when we did not follow instructions.” He encouraged other students to join the cadet program, highlighting that such training can instill discipline that is essential for success in life.
This parade and its successful execution reflect a broader commitment within educational institutions to foster discipline and leadership skills among students. It aligns with recent similar events across other schools, such as Lomary Secondary School and Suva Grammar School, where cadet training has been emphasized as key to personal development and lifelong discipline.
Such programs not only help in shaping well-rounded individuals but also aim to combat rising social issues among youth, reinforcing the importance of good conduct, responsibility, and teamwork. As these students continue to develop the skills learned during their cadet training, they remain poised to make meaningful contributions to their communities in the future.
