The Fiji Airways men’s 7s team, led by captain Jerry Matana, is prioritizing improvement and discipline as they prepare for the upcoming Singapore and Perth legs of the World Rugby Sevens Series. Following their recent performance at the Coral Coast 7s, Matana emphasized the need to address discipline as a vital component for the team moving forward.

With preparations underway, Matana stated, “We’re now ready for the two legs, Singapore and Perth. We need to work on our discipline; that is something I believe we lacked during the Coral Coast 7s. At the start of our training week, we’re working on our weaknesses.” He reflected on their previous performances in the Dubai and Cape Town competitions, acknowledging that critical mistakes had hindered their success.

To ensure a better outcome, the team has ramped up their training sessions, focusing on refining skills and eliminating the errors that have plagued them in the past. Matana noted, “We made silly mistakes and poor discipline cost us at crucial times.”

In the upcoming tournament, Fiji has been placed in Pool A with formidable opponents South Africa, Great Britain, and Spain. Their first match will be against Great Britain at 4:32 PM on Saturday, followed by matches against Spain at 7:58 PM and South Africa at 11:46 PM.

In parallel, the Fijiana 7s team will compete in a challenging pool alongside Cape Town champions Australia, as well as the USA and Japan, promising an exciting weekend of rugby action. This renewed focus on discipline and training could potentially set the stage for a successful performance by both teams in their respective competitions.
