The Viti Roofing Devo Babas have reached a remarkable achievement by becoming the champions of the Fiji Bitter 7s series after winning the prestigious Marist 7s tournament last Saturday. This victory marks their sixth tournament win, adding to their prior successes at events in Wairiki, Labasa, Savusavu, Tabadamu, and Nawaka.

In a gripping men’s cup final at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, the Devo Babas triumphed over the Axellerate Dominion Brothers with a score of 10-5. The match began with the Dominion Brothers taking an early advantage thanks to a try by national player Iliavi Masori. However, the Devo Babas showcased their resilience by regrouping in the second half, with Aisake Peni and Rusiate Matai each contributing decisive tries that secured their victory.

Coach Bill Ratute, leading the team since its foundation four years ago, expressed heartfelt thanks. He credited the team’s success to divine guidance and the unwavering commitment of the players. “It’s been a great achievement for us, from a team that just had its fourth anniversary last week,” Ratute stated. He highlighted the significance of enjoying the game and maintaining strong community ties, which have become integral to the team’s identity.

The Devo Babas made their debut in the Fiji Bitter 7s series during the Malake 7s last October. Their recent accomplishments have not only bolstered their standing in the rugby sevens circuit but also ignited inspiration within the local community, exemplifying the enduring spirit and talent that Fiji’s rugby players embody.

This victory stands as a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Devo Babas, serving as a symbol of hope and inspiration for the next generation of rugby athletes in Fiji. As they relish this well-deserved success, there is palpable excitement for the future opportunities that lie ahead for this promising team and the flourishing rugby culture they champion.
