A fire in Caubati, Nasinu, on Tuesday, September 3, has left 22 individuals without homes after it destroyed two wooden houses. The National Fire Authority received an emergency alert at 9:59 AM, leading to a swift response from the Valelevu, Suva, and Nakasi fire stations.
By 11:12 AM, the fire was reported to be under control but resulted in over 95% damage to both residences. One house was home to 17 people, while the other housed 5.
Authorities will conduct an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. Puamau Sowane, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Fire Authority, emphasized the critical importance of fire safety, encouraging homeowners to utilize appropriate building materials and engage licensed electricians to prevent electrical malfunctions, which are a common cause of house fires.
