The Health Ministry has reported that there have been no confirmed deaths from dengue fever in the Western Division, despite rising case numbers. Preliminary investigations into suspected fatalities have shown negative results, indicating that no deaths have been officially classified as dengue-related.

The Ministry emphasized that the verification of dengue deaths involves rigorous procedures, including the issuance of death certificates, and ongoing reviews of suspected deaths are underway. They highlighted a recent trend showing a decrease in cases over the past few weeks, contrasting with previous weeks where a rapid increase was observed. Although an outbreak has been declared for the Western Division, the situation is showing signs of stabilization, with lesser rates of increase compared to earlier spikes.

Currently, there have been approximately 2,436 reported cases of dengue nationally from January 1 to February 23, with the Western Division accounting for the highest number with around 1,411 cases. The Central Division has registered 559 cases, while the Northern and Eastern Divisions have reported 419 and 47 cases, respectively. Health officials indicated that the recent flooding and rainfall, particularly following Tropical Cyclone Rae, have contributed to suitable conditions for mosquito breeding, which in turn boosts dengue transmission.

In light of these developments, health authorities are taking proactive measures, including community engagement, to manage and reduce the spread of the virus. Public health campaigns have been initiated to raise awareness about preventive actions, and health officials are encouraging residents to remain vigilant, seek prompt medical attention for dengue symptoms, and take measures to minimize mosquito breeding sites around their homes.

This ongoing situation has showcased the importance of community cooperation and preparedness in managing health crises effectively. As the situation progresses, the commitment to public health and community involvement offers a hopeful outlook for controlling the spread of dengue fever in the affected regions.
