The Fiji Airways Fiji men’s sevens team is gearing up for a promising season, with head coach Osea Kolinisau announcing an ongoing strategy to incorporate new talent into the squad. This year marks a significant transition for the team, and Kolinisau confirmed that two debutants, Nacani Boginisoko and Douglas Daveta, are set to make their national sevens debuts this week.

Kolinisau emphasized the importance of building depth within the squad as they prepare for upcoming competitions. “We’ve got two debutants this week, so we’re still building on depth,” he stated, underscoring that this would not be the last introduction of new players for the season. His confidence in the squad’s ability to adapt is reflected in the players’ fitness levels and their quick adjustments to the training regimen as preparations ramp up in Singapore.

As competition draws near, the focus of training has shifted from heavy physical conditioning to refining skills and technical execution. Kolinisau explained, “It’s not about hammering them or trying to get more into the tank. It’s about tapering down, shepherding things up, and getting our technical stuff right.”

Key areas of emphasis during camp have included set-piece accuracy and team structure, particularly concerning defensive and offensive strategies. The squad’s adaptation to local conditions has been promising, with training sessions designed to enhance player combinations before the games begin.

The men’s sevens team is set to kick off their season this Saturday at 4.32pm against Great Britain, followed by matches against Spain at 7.58pm and South Africa at 11.46pm. Fans can catch all the action live on FBC TV, marking an exciting start to the season for both the team and its supporters.
