In a heartwarming tale from Viria, Naitasiri, three orphaned animals— a lamb named Bibi and two baby goats both affectionately called Miti—have found a loving home with Sanjita Kuar, a dedicated dairy farmer. At just 43 years old, Sanjita embraced her role as their adoptive mother after they were abandoned or lost their mothers at birth.

The bond among them has grown strong, forming a unique family dynamic on the farm that also includes four dogs and a cat. Sanjita treats her new companions as if they were her own children, stating clearly that they are not merely farm animals for profit or for the pot, but beloved family members whom she plans to care for until their natural end.

Each day starts with a structured routine, in which the trio eagerly consumes a mix of cow’s milk and powdered milk from special bottles, followed by treats of bread and tinned fish. Though they aren’t traditional carnivores, they occasionally nibble on fresh grass, showcasing their adaptability and playful nature. Bibi stands out as the early riser, alerting Sanjita at dawn when it’s time to begin milking her cows, a practice she approaches with dedication.

Sanjita’s responsibilities extend beyond just the trio; she oversees a growing herd of 50 cattle along with chickens, ducks, goats, and sheep, all lovingly cared for in her father’s old family farm. After her 73-year-old father, Koki, slowed down, Sanjita took the reins and now manages the farm, a dream she has cherished since her childhood.

Her life on the farm is not just about work; it’s a passion that allows her the joy of autonomy, stating, “I am my own boss and nobody pushes me around and tells me what to do!”

In the evenings, another layer of joy unfolds as her son returns home from his job as a bus driver, where Bibi and the Mitis greet him enthusiastically, often hoping to snag some bhajia treats he brings home.

The love nurtured on Sanjita’s farm transcends the usual bounds, illustrated through the quiet companionship she shares with her animals, who she considers a significant part of her life. This story exemplifies the beauty of bond and harmony between humans and animals, bringing a sense of warmth and hope to the lives they touch.
