Tropical Depression 10F has officially been upgraded to Category 1 Cyclone Seru, as confirmed by Misaeli Funaki, Director of the Nadi Weather Office. The cyclone reached tropical intensity at approximately 3 PM today, and it is now moving southeast, closer to Vanuatu.
While TC Seru is expected to pass to the west of Fiji, Funaki has expressed concerns regarding mariners due to strong northwest winds and significant wave activity generated by the cyclone. Residents in the western division may experience some rain associated with the system as it progresses.
This development comes on the heels of the recent Tropical Depression 09F, which was also monitored closely for potential intensification and its anticipated impacts on the region. As seen before with similar weather systems—such as TD01F and TD09F—strong community preparedness and support are critical in facing severe weather challenges. Residents are urged to stay informed and have their emergency plans in place.
Communities throughout Fiji have historically shown resilience and solidarity in times of severe weather. This spirit of unity is crucial as they navigate the challenges posed by Cyclone Seru and any associated adverse weather patterns, reminding everyone of the importance of preparedness and community support in mitigating the impacts of storms. As Cyclone Seru approaches, there is hope that residents will come together to ensure safety and readiness, fostering a strong communal spirit during this time.
