Cuvu College achieved a remarkable victory in the Vodafone Super Deans competition, overcoming Ratu Kadavulevu School (RKS) with a score of 23-20 in a thrilling under-18 match at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
After trailing 19-13 at halftime, Cuvu College returned to the field with enhanced determination, managing to score two unconverted tries to take the lead. RKS could only add a penalty kick to their score in the second half, which created a tense finish to the game.
Confusion arose at the end of the match when RKS celebrated as if they had won, only to have the officials clarify a situation that almost handed them the victory mistakenly.
Cuvu College principal Manoj Vikash expressed immense pride and emotion after the win, highlighting the importance of rugby in their community and how this victory may open new opportunities for the players.
“I’m really proud. We give thanks first and foremost to the Almighty. My heart cries out for them; we in Cuvu believe in rugby as a career, and this win has opened doors for our boys to do something with their lives,” Vikash shared, visibly moved.
He recognized the dedication of the players and the strategic decisions made by the coach. Coach Samisoni Navatu credited their success to self-belief and playing their established style of rugby. He also thanked the supporters who made the journey to Suva early in the morning to encourage their sons.
