A bus accident involving a Pacific Transport vehicle in Cuvu, Sigatoka, has left the driver and several passengers injured this afternoon. The bus was traveling from Nadi to Sigatoka when it lost control and veered off the road, triggering a rapid response from emergency services in the area.

Irimaia Rokosawa, the Chief Executive Officer of the Land Transport Authority (LTA), underscored the critical importance of adhering to traffic laws and safe driving habits. He stressed that “Safety on our roads is paramount,” highlighting how reckless behaviors like speeding and non-compliance with safety regulations endanger lives. He pointed out that Public Service Vehicle (PSV) drivers hold a significant responsibility for passenger safety and that travelers rely on them to arrive at their destinations without incident.

This accident comes amidst a troubling series of bus-related incidents in Fiji over the past few months. Notably, only last week, there was a serious collision involving a minibus and a container truck that resulted in multiple injuries, raising alarm about the urgent need for greater awareness and compliance with safety standards among PSV drivers.

As authorities conduct their investigations into the current incident, there is optimism that these unfortunate events will inspire greater awareness regarding road safety. There is a hope that with heightened vigilance and stricter enforcement of regulations, communities can expect improvements in travel safety in the future, reinforcing the commitment to prioritizing safety on the roads. This proactive approach will hopefully pave the way for safer travel experiences for all.
