The Oceania Regatta made a port call in Suva on July 11, arriving from Lautoka earlier that day. This cruise ship, which was constructed in 1998, is part of Oceania Cruises and can accommodate up to 670 guests (double occupancy). With a gross tonnage of 30,277, the Regatta is 593.7 feet long and has 11 decks. The ship includes 62 suites and 349 staterooms, along with four restaurants, 11 bars and lounges, and a swimming pool.
The Regatta, which boasts a maximum cruising speed of 18 knots, was last refurbished in 2019, enhancing its luxury offerings. Oceania Cruises, renowned as a culinary and destination-focused cruise line, operates a fleet of seven luxury ships, ensuring high-quality experiences for its guests.
Despite a lull in sales for street vendors, local hawker Navi Kumar shared that he had the opportunity to converse with some cruise passengers. An elderly couple he met expressed their fondness for Suva’s historical landmarks and excitement about cruising in the Pacific.
As the Regatta departed Suva at 5 PM, it became one of two cruise ships slated to visit Suva during the month, with Carnival Splendor also scheduled to arrive on July 27.
This influx of cruise ships is great news for the local economy, bringing visitors who contribute to tourism and engage with the community. The connections fostered between cruise passengers and local vendors can enhance cultural exchanges and promote the unique charm of the region.
