The Lautoka High Court is set to announce its ruling tomorrow regarding the government’s request to destroy 4.1 tonnes of methamphetamine that was confiscated in Nadi last December. During a court session yesterday, several individuals, including Justin Ho, David Heritage, Louie Logaivau, Jale Aukerea, Sakiusa Tuva, Keanie Mcpherson, Ratu Aporosa Davelevu, Ratu Osea Levula, Cathy Tuirabe, and Viliame Colawaliku, appeared before Justice Aruna Aluthge.

The Court is currently awaiting the submission of a destruction plan from the State before proceeding with the ruling. Additionally, both parties have been instructed to finalize pre-trial matters by January 31, 2025. The hearings for Voir dire and the trial itself are scheduled from April 21 to May 23, 2025.

Bail has been extended for all involved, with the exception of Cathy Tuirabe and Viliame Colawaliku, who are currently under bench warrants for failing to appear. The police are actively seeking these two individuals. The Court has implemented a curfew from 6 pm to 6 am for Justin Ho, Louie Logaivau, and Jale Aukerea as a condition of their bail.

The defendants are facing serious charges, including unlawful importation and possession of illicit drugs, as well as possession of property believed to be derived from criminal activity. The case has been adjourned until tomorrow for the ruling.

This ongoing legal process highlights the serious stance authorities are taking against drug-related offenses, setting a precedent for future cases. With the commitment to eradicating illegal drugs, the community can look forward to a safer environment. The forthcoming rulings and measures emphasize the judicial system’s intention to uphold the law and protect the public.
