The Lautoka High Court is set to announce its ruling tomorrow regarding the government’s request for the destruction of 4.1 tonnes of methamphetamine that were seized in Nadi last December. During a hearing yesterday, several defendants, including Justin Ho, David Heritage, Louie Logaivau, Jale Aukerea, Sakiusa Tuva, Keanie Mcpherson, Ratu Aporosa Davelevu, Ratu Osea Levula, Cathy Tuirabe, and Viliame Colawaliku, appeared before Justice Aruna Aluthge.

The court is currently awaiting a detailed destruction plan from the State before proceeding with its ruling. Additionally, the court has mandated that both the State and the Defence resolve any pre-trial matters by January 31, 2025. The dates for the Voir dire hearing and subsequent trial have also been scheduled from April 21 to May 23, 2025.

While bail has been granted to all defendants except for Cathy Tuirabe and Viliame Colawaliku—who are currently evading authorities under a bench warrant—the court has imposed a curfew from 6 PM to 6 AM on Justin Ho, Louie Logaivau, and Jale Aukerea as part of their bail conditions.

The accused individuals face serious charges including the unlawful importation and possession of drugs, as well as possession of property believed to be the proceeds of criminal activities. The court case will continue with its next session scheduled for tomorrow, where an important decision regarding the destruction of the seized drugs will be made.

This situation exemplifies the ongoing fight against drug trafficking and the legal processes involved in handling such significant drug seizures. As the court seeks to establish justice, it highlights the commitment of law enforcement and the judiciary to combat crime and uphold public safety.
