Three men have been charged and presented in court on August 6 for their alleged involvement in a criminal trespass incident at a school in Suva. The accused include Jone Vakarisi, who has a prior conviction. They face a charge of criminal trespass under Section 387 of the Crimes Act of 2009 for allegedly entering the school compound while escorting a person of interest to the police.

In addition to the trespass charge, the three men are also accused of operating without a valid security license, which is a violation of the Security Industry Act. They have been released on bail, with Mr. Vakarisi subjected to a curfew from 6 PM to 6 AM. Their case is set to be revisited on September 12, 2025.

This case is consistent with recent efforts by law enforcement in Suva to crack down on unauthorized security operations. Previous reports have indicated a broader initiative to ensure public safety, particularly around educational institutions, where the presence of unlicensed security personnel poses a concern. Law enforcement’s proactive stance highlights the importance of safeguarding community environments, fostering a collective effort between police and citizens to deter illegal activities.

Such judicial procedures and police actions serve a dual purpose: they aim to hold individuals accountable while promoting an environment where public safety is prioritized. As the proceedings continue, there is hope that these measures will lead to stronger safety protocols and an increased sense of trust between the community and law enforcement.
