The Fijian Elections Office (FEO) has confirmed that preparations for the upcoming general election are progressing smoothly, with essential legal timelines already delineated. Supervisor of Elections Ana Mataiciwa highlighted the office’s commitment to transparency by actively disseminating information regarding potential writ and election dates.
Mataiciwa indicated that the earliest possible date for the election writ is set for June 24, 2026, which would lead to the first possible election day on August 7, 2026. Should the writ be issued on its latest possible date, December 24, 2026, the final election could occur on February 6, 2027. She affirmed that organizing the general election is one of the office’s primary responsibilities.
While there may have been minimal public visibility regarding election preparations thus far, Mataiciwa reassured the public that behind-the-scenes efforts have been ongoing. “This year will be the year that we will go out, and we will be more present in terms of electoral processes,” she stated, emphasizing that public engagement and awareness initiatives are set to increase as the election period approaches. This proactive approach demonstrates the FEO’s dedication to ensuring that voters are well-informed and prepared as the electoral landscape evolves in Fiji.
