Tourism Minister Viliame Gavoka has labeled the recent health incident at Coral Coast that resulted in seven individuals being hospitalized as “an extremely isolated incident.” In a statement aimed at reassuring both local and international tourists, Mr. Gavoka confirmed that detailed investigations are currently underway.

The seven affected guests were taken to Aspen Lautoka Hospital for comprehensive medical care and further assessments. According to Mr. Gavoka, initial findings have shown no additional cases linked to this incident. “Our health team is actively investigating the cause, with further testing and research supported by the Ministry of Health and the Fiji Police Force,” he stated.

Importantly, Mr. Gavoka clarified that the incident was confined to a specific bar within the resort, with no similar occurrences being reported in other areas of the resort or throughout Fiji. He praised the resort for its long-standing history in Fiji and its excellent reputation, especially among Australian tourists.

“The management of the resort is genuinely concerned for the well-being of its guests and is fully cooperating with authorities to determine the cause,” he added. While emphasizing that no alterations had been made to ingredients or the quality of drinks served to guests, Mr. Gavoka reiterated that cooperation is ongoing as investigations and laboratory tests progress.

Mr. Gavoka reassured the public that Fiji continues to be a safe travel destination, with thousands of tourists visiting the country without issue. He noted that this is the only report of its kind in recent times and emphasized that there have been no similar cases this year.

As Fiji approaches the festive season, the Minister encourages both tourists and locals to exercise caution regarding their consumption habits. “We are hopeful that the affected guests are stable and will continue to improve,” he said. “Our priority remains their well-being, and we will keep the public updated as the investigation unfolds.”

This incident highlights the importance of timely communication and thorough investigation when it comes to health and safety in tourism, providing reassurance to travelers while the authorities work diligently to safeguard public health.

In summary, the health incident at Coral Coast appears to be an isolated case, and the response from the tourism ministry, along with healthcare authorities, emphasizes the commitment to ensuring safety and transparency in the tourism industry.
