The Nasinu Town Council is actively collaborating with the Ministry of Health in their efforts to combat the spread of dengue fever through a comprehensive clean-up campaign. This initiative, targeting the Suva and Nausori areas, recently included an effort at St Giles Hospital along with seven other wards in Nasinu.
Francis Singh, the operation supervisor, highlighted the significance of this initiative in minimizing the risk of dengue outbreaks and maintaining a clean environment. The council, guided by chairman Felix Magnus, is specifically focused on clearing rubbish around the hospital to protect both patients and staff from potential dengue exposure.
Throughout the week, staff from St Giles Hospital have also been engaged in cleaning activities in their vicinity, reinforcing the importance of maintaining hygiene to prevent the spread of the mosquito-borne disease.
This campaign aligns with similar community efforts across Fiji aimed at preventing dengue. For instance, initiatives in areas like Veiraisi Settlement and Lautoka have demonstrated the crucial role of community participation in addressing health issues. Previous campaigns have successfully engaged local residents in clean-up drives, emphasizing the importance of collaboratively tackling the threat posed by dengue fever.
The ongoing commitment from both the Nasinu Town Council and community members offers hope that increased awareness and proactive measures can significantly reduce the incidence of dengue, fostering a healthier environment for everyone involved.
As communities unite in these efforts, detailed strategies such as eliminating mosquito breeding habitats and preserving cleanliness in public spaces are pivotal in the fight against dengue fever. Collectively, these actions illustrate a positive approach towards enhancing public health across the nation.
