Commonwealth Leaders Unite for Ocean Progress in Samoa

Commonwealth leaders gathered at the event titled “An Ocean of Opportunity: Commonwealth Progress on Ocean Action” during the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Apia, Samoa. The event centered on advancing the implementation of the Commonwealth Ocean Declaration, which aims to enhance sustainable ocean financing.

Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Sitiveni Rabuka praised the notable advancements in ocean action that have occurred in the six years since the adoption of the Blue Charter by Commonwealth leaders. He emphasized that, as a Small Island Developing State and a member of the Commonwealth, the Declaration holds significant importance, relevance, and urgency for their nation.

Rabuka highlighted the central role of the ocean in their geography, noting its deep connection to their identity.
