Coastal Inundation Alert: What You Need to Know for Southern Fiji

The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued a coastal inundation alert for all low-lying coastal regions of Southern Viti Levu, Beqa, Vatulele, Kadavu, and the nearby smaller islands within the Central and Southern Lau groups. A high-pressure system located to the far southwest of Fiji is anticipated to create and direct moderate to heavy southerly swells across the southern waters of Fiji.

The predicted high tides along with swell heights are as follows:
– Friday, September 6, 2024, at 08:00 PM: 1.9 meters
– Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 08:20 AM: 1.8 meters

The possible consequences include coastal inundation and debris along low-lying areas, especially during high tides. This time period may pose dangers for recreational activities.
