The 2024 Commonwealth Climate Breakfast aimed to foster agreement on climate finance goals in anticipation of COP 29. Key topics discussed included access to climate finance, Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and measures for loss and mitigation during the CHOGM Climate Breakfast – Building Consensus for Climate Finance in the Commonwealth forum.

Fiji’s Fisheries and Forestry Minister, Alitia Bainivalu, addressed two significant targets encompassed in Fiji’s NDCs related to the Forestry Ministry. She stated that “target 10 is to conserve our natural environment and biodiversity, ensuring the sustainable long-term provision of ecosystem services, such as carbon sequestration potential.” Furthermore, she mentioned “target 11 involves the commitment to plant 30 million trees over a span of 15 years, a priority for the Ministry that began in 2012.”

The CHOGM is set to conclude on Saturday, October 26.
