The Nasinu Town Council is actively encouraging community members to foster civic pride by responsibly disposing of waste and getting involved in scheduled clean-up events. Despite challenging weather conditions on Saturday, council staff and local volunteers carried out cleanup activities in Nadawa, emphasizing the importance of a collective effort towards maintaining a clean environment.
Earlier in the week, similar campaigns were conducted at the Fiji National University’s Narere and Valelevu campuses, with Special Administrator Salesh Kumar taking part and highlighting the role of educational institutions as models of pride within the community. He stated, “A clean Nasinu begins with each one of us making conscious decisions to respect our environment.” Mr. Kumar stressed that individual actions, no matter how small, can significantly contribute to making Nasinu one of Fiji’s cleanest municipalities.
Looking ahead, the council is set to launch additional anti-littering initiatives and maintain ongoing efforts such as green waste collection and white goods disposal, appealing to residents to be mindful of how they discard their rubbish. Mr. Kumar emphasized that a clean environment is not only about aesthetics but also crucial for public health, contributing to disease prevention and the safeguarding of local ecosystems.
He further noted that the cleanup initiative will continue systematically across various wards, ensuring every area receives the same degree of attention and care. “Together, we can build a cleaner, greener community and beyond. Let’s do our part – every small action counts,” he urged.
This call for action aligns with broader community sentiments about the necessity of fostering a sense of responsibility towards waste management, as echoed in past discussions about littering issues in Fiji. Initiatives like Kumar’s highlight the potential for transformative change through community engagement and education, reflecting a growing movement towards sustainable living and enhanced public health.
Such efforts encourage not just environmental cleanliness but also cultivate a deeper sense of community responsibility, paving the way towards a healthier and safer environment for everyone in Nasinu and beyond.
