Six individuals are currently in police custody pending drug analysis after being apprehended on Christmas Day for allegedly possessing marijuana. This operation is part of the Fiji Police Force’s ongoing efforts to combat illicit drug activities during the festive season.
In the Southern Division, a 38-year-old unemployed man from Nabua, Suva, was caught with seven sachets of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana, wrapped in aluminum foil. Additionally, a raid in Qauia, Lami, led to the arrest of a 24-year-old unemployed man found with a branch of dried leaves believed to be marijuana. A 52-year-old man from Nakelo, Tailevu, was also apprehended after police discovered 20 sachets of the same substance.
Meanwhile, two men from Vusuya, Kuku, near Nausori Town, were taken into custody in Valelevu, Nasinu, after allegedly being found with two ziplock bags that contained a crystal-like substance suspected to be methamphetamine.
In the Western Division, a 50-year-old unemployed man from Tomuka, Lautoka, was arrested for possessing five sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana, also wrapped in aluminum foil.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu stated that police are intensifying their surveillance in parks and community areas to deter opportunistic drug use during the holiday season.
This initiative highlights the commitment of the Fiji Police Force to maintain public safety and reduce drug-related incidents, reflecting a proactive approach to addressing substance abuse, particularly during a time traditionally associated with celebration and gatherings.
