On Christmas Day, law enforcement arrested six individuals for possession of illegal drugs. Among those detained was a 38-year-old unemployed man from Nabua, who was found with seven sachets of dried leaves packaged in aluminum foil, believed to be marijuana.

A 24-year-old man from Qauia, Lami, was also apprehended after police discovered a branch of dried leaves, suspected to be marijuana, during a search. In a separate incident, two men, aged 44 and 40, from Vusuya, Nausori, were arrested in Valelevu with two zip lock bags containing a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine.

Additionally, a 52-year-old from Nakelo, Tailevu, was caught with 20 sachets of dried leaves, once again thought to be marijuana. Lastly, a 50-year-old unemployed individual from Tomuka in Lautoka was found in possession of five sachets of dried leaves wrapped in aluminum foil, believed to contain marijuana as well.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu confirmed that police conducted drug checks throughout Christmas Day and will persist in monitoring areas such as picnic spots and communities to combat drug-related activities. All six suspects are currently in police custody, awaiting drug analysis as investigations continue.

This ongoing vigilance by law enforcement demonstrates a commitment to community safety and the importance of maintaining public order, especially during festive seasons when the potential for substance abuse often increases. The authorities’ proactive approach may serve as a warning to deter future drug-related offenses and contributes to a safer environment for everyone.
