The Fiji Police Force is emphasizing the need for caution as heavy rainfall and flooding impact various regions of the country during the Christmas season. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, has warned that water levels are rising, advising parents to keep their children away from flooded areas to avoid accidents.

Driu highlighted the importance of safety, referencing previous cases where parents were held accountable for incidents involving their children. “The Weather Office has issued advisory warnings for the upcoming days, and we have already noted flooding in some locations. We urge all parents to ensure their children remain safe and steer clear of flooded waters,” he stated.

During this festive period, the police plan to actively monitor areas experiencing flooding to minimize accidents. “Our officers will be present to oversee the situation and conduct checks in affected areas. With it being Christmas Eve, we want to prevent any unfortunate incidents from occurring,” added Driu.

He further encouraged community cooperation to enhance safety for everyone during the holiday season, reinforcing the message that collective vigilance can help protect lives.

This proactive approach not only aims to safeguard lives but also fosters a sense of community responsibility, encouraging families to prioritize safety during festive celebrations. By working together, the people of Fiji can ensure a joyous and safe holiday season.
