China is taking a prominent role in advancing global engagement in service and trade promotion. For over a decade, the country has hosted the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), inviting nations from around the globe to participate.
The 12th installment of CIFTIS took place from September 12 to 16 at the China National Convention Center and Shougang Park in Beijing. Since its inception in 2012, CIFTIS has established itself as one of the largest fairs dedicated to services worldwide, and this year was no exception.
Eighty-five countries participated in this year’s event, marking a significant display of international representation. However, it was disappointing not to see Fiji represented, especially considering the potential for trade and the opportunity to showcase its unique culture.
A contingent of ninety journalists from 83 countries, including three representatives from Pacific Islands, attended the latter half of the China International Press Communication Centre program. These journalists had the chance to cover CIFTIS 2024, emphasizing the importance of sharing stories and experiences from the fair with a global audience.
As attendees explored various booths, the vibrant atmosphere was accompanied by intriguing displays featuring new technologies and cultural exhibits. The fair showcased a wide range of products, including footwear, apparel, accessories, toys, and souvenirs. The venue was so bustling that navigating through it proved challenging, prompting some guests to purchase items as mementos.
One booth that stood out featured a remarkable robot resembling a friendly dog, demonstrating the advanced technology present at the event. The robot’s ability to interact with visitors added to the experience, highlighting the ingenuity in China’s technological advances.
The fair was not only dynamic but also educational, offering insights into digital services and eco-friendly tourism. Each new discovery heightened curiosity about how different nations utilize technology and creativity.
