Cheryl Hines has opened up about her relationship with former co-star Larry David, emphasizing that it is not as strained as it might appear. During an interview with NewsNation’s Elizabeth Vargas, Hines acknowledged a reported estrangement from David, her comedic counterpart on Curb Your Enthusiasm for over two decades. She attributed the rift in their relationship to political differences stemming from her marriage to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has taken on a significant role in President Donald Trump’s administration.
When asked about her efforts to reconnect with David since the show concluded in April 2024, Hines admitted that she hasn’t attempted to reach out. She speculated that David might be upset due to her husband’s involvement in the administration and expressed her willingness to engage if they were to cross paths. “I would be happy to see him, and I’d say ‘hi’ and we’d talk for a second,” she remarked.
Hines clarified that her friendship with David was not particularly close to begin with. “It’s not like Larry and I used to play pickleball and we don’t now,” she laughed, recognizing that they mostly encountered each other professionally rather than socially. Despite the political backdrop, she expressed optimism that their rapport would remain friendly if they were to meet again.
Interestingly, Hines revealed that David played a pivotal role in introducing her to Kennedy at a fundraiser. The couple’s relationship became public in 2011, culminating in their marriage in 2014.
Addressing rumors of her being “shunned” in Hollywood due to her husband’s political stance, Hines downplayed these claims and highlighted the support she has received from various industry figures. Many have reached out to her, expressing both concern and endorsement of her husband’s political pursuits.
While Hines acknowledged receiving some criticism for Kennedy’s role in the administration, she emphasized that these disagreements have not led to any significant fallout among her friends. “I haven’t had a moment of somebody storming out the door,” she asserted.
Hines’ reflections on her personal relationships amid the political landscape demonstrate an ability to maintain connections despite differences, suggesting that dialogue and mutual respect can prevail even in divisive times.
