Fiji Labour Party leader Mahendra Chaudhry has called on Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka to redirect his attention to the pressing needs of flood victims in the Western Division rather than focusing on road inspections. Chaudhry expressed concern on social media regarding the Prime Minister’s ongoing tour in the North for road maintenance when urgent aid is required in flood-affected areas like Sigatoka, Nadi, Ra, Ba, and Tavua.
He emphasized that relevant government agencies have not provided adequate assistance to those impacted by the floods, urging the Prime Minister to prioritize efforts where they are needed most. “The cyclone season has only just begun,” Chaudhry noted, warning that any delays in the relief response must be corrected swiftly.
This situation highlights the importance of timely governmental action in response to natural disasters, especially as communities brace for potential future challenges during the cyclone season. An immediate focus on supporting relief efforts can foster resilience among the affected communities and enhance the government’s role in disaster management.
In light of this, it’s hopeful that proactive measures will be taken to ensure effective disaster response and support for those in need. Such actions can not only aid recovery but also strengthen community bonds during challenging times.
