Deuba District School recently celebrated its 118th anniversary, marking a significant milestone as a cornerstone of education in the Deuba region. Established in 1906, this institution is one of the oldest schools in Serua province. The festivities included an awards ceremony attended by alumni and community members, where Reama Pareti, a respected educator and former student, reflected on the school’s lasting impact on educational and cultural development.
Mrs. Pareti shared that the school was founded primarily to serve the villages within the tikina of Deuba, providing essential education to children from varying backgrounds, including those of civil servants located in Naitonitoni. The institution has not only imparted essential academic skills but has also preserved indigenous cultural practices, with teachers striving to integrate traditional knowledge alongside mainstream educational objectives.
Reflecting on her experiences, Mrs. Pareti recounted her own journey, beginning in 1969, and praised the dedication of the school’s educators who profoundly influenced her lifelong appreciation for education. Many alumni have gone on to achieve success in diverse fields such as politics, education, and sports, highlighting the school’s role in shaping future leaders.

To further enhance its offerings, the old scholars’ association is actively working on a five-year development plan which aims to improve school facilities and literacy programs. This initiative reflects a commitment to nurturing well-rounded students equipped to face a rapidly changing world.
