The Nadroga Navosa Chamber of Commerce and Industry is expressing caution regarding the upcoming 2025-2026 National Budget. While chamber president Suresh Naidu is supportive of the newly proposed tax system, he harbors doubts about the Coalition Government’s ability to fulfill its promises in the next financial year.
Naidu notes that while the vision outlined in the budget is commendable, the government’s commitment must be observed consistently throughout the fiscal year to build trust. He pointedly remarked, “Although I appreciate the vision presented in this budget, I still exercise caution.” The focus should also extend to enhancing land use for agriculture, he suggested, particularly highlighting the potential for lamb farming in areas where land remains unutilized.
Additionally, Naidu welcomed the increased funding allocation for the Fiji Roads Authority but urged that specific attention ought to be given to improving local roads and street lighting in town areas for the community’s safety and convenience.
His comments resonate with previous discussions highlighted by the Lautoka Chamber of Commerce, which also praised the budget for its potential to stimulate economic growth, particularly in infrastructure development. The general sentiment points towards a hopeful outlook as the budget aims to address socio-economic challenges through improved public services and community engagement.
As stakeholders await the finalization of the budget, there is an optimistic belief that the governmental plans will not only bring immediate resources but also lay a strong foundation for sustainable growth in various crucial sectors, ultimately benefiting all Fijians in the long run.
