The Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) has embraced new development avenues and investment opportunities following a significant meeting with Canada’s Secretary of State for International Development, Randeep Sarai. This interaction occurred during a special business reception organized by Investment Fiji at the Crowne Plaza.

During the reception, Sarai outlined Canada’s foreign policy objectives, focusing on diversifying trade and investment channels, sharing developmental goals, and utilizing international resources to foster economic growth. NCCI President Lawrence Kumar expressed enthusiasm about the engagement, highlighting its importance for networking and discussing vital development prospects for Fiji. He emphasized that it strengthens Fiji’s economic ties with Canada, paving the way for increased international trade and mutual development benefits.

Kumar pointed out the promising potential for new job creation and economic improvement, especially with Sarai poised to inaugurate Canada’s High Commission in Fiji this Friday. He characterized this establishment as a long-awaited milestone in Canada’s ongoing involvement in the region and the deepening of people-to-people connections and bilateral relations between the two countries. Furthermore, he noted that this development may lead to an uptick in Canadian tourists visiting Fiji and a reciprocal increase in Fijian travel to Canada.

Sarai is on his first visit to Fiji, a three-day journey that includes multiple field visits and events in Nadi, Sigatoka, and Suva. This visit signifies not only the strengthening of economic bonds but also highlights the commitment of both nations to work collaboratively for their mutual benefit.
