Lack of communication among family members is becoming a significant issue, impacting the establishment of healthy parent-child relationships. Empower Pacific counselor Reshmi Singh emphasizes that there is a rising trend where both parents and children are increasingly absorbed in their individual routines, which has been evident in many cases they are handling.

In a discussion with FBC News, Singh pointed out that ineffective communication undermines parents’ ability to impart crucial values, emotional awareness, and life skills to their children during their formative years. She observes that many parents opt for digital devices as an easier method to manage their children’s behavior. Nonetheless, Singh warns that relying heavily on technology can lead to long-term adverse effects.

“Sometimes when you talk to parents, they find an easier way that, like we just give them the phone and they are accessing something on social media and the parents have no idea what the children are watching, and this can actually shape their behavior as well,” Singh explained.

She cautions that a lack of communication paired with unchecked digital usage exposes children to negative online influences, which often encourage risky or harmful behaviors. To counteract this trend, Singh advocates for simple yet intentional measures, such as sharing meals or identifying other activities that allow families to spend quality time together, thereby reinforcing family bonds and fostering healthy communication.

Moreover, she highlights the importance of parents being approachable and developing friendships with their children, which creates a safe environment for open dialogue and emotional support. By prioritizing connection over convenience, families can build resilient relationships that navigate the complexities of modern life.
