Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced a cabinet reshuffle, indicating a reassignment of portfolios within his government. This decision comes as he emphasizes the need to delegate responsibilities more effectively. During an interview at the Prime Minister’s International Business Awards in Nadi, he stated, “We are halfway through, and I don’t have to be taking too many responsibilities.”
Additionally, Mr. Rabuka addressed rumors regarding Home Affairs Minister Pio Tikoduadua, clarifying that there is no ongoing investigation related to drugs. The Prime Minister confirmed that Mr. Tikoduadua has temporarily stepped aside solely due to an investigation concerning the Department of Immigration. Following this, Mr. Rabuka has taken the initiative to oversee both the Immigration Department and the Fiji Police Force as part of his portfolio. However, Mr. Tikoduadua will continue to serve as Minister for Defence, overseeing the Republic of Fiji Military Forces and Veterans’ Affairs.
In this context, the reshuffle may be seen as a strategic move to streamline operations within the cabinet during a pivotal time in Mr. Rabuka’s term. This proactive approach could enhance governance and ensure that critical issues are addressed more efficiently.
Overall, the changes reflect a commitment to transparency and effective leadership, aiming to strengthen public confidence in the government’s ability to manage ongoing investigations and responsibilities. It could lead to a more focused cabinet that can better serve the needs of the Fijian people.
