A juvenile and two men are scheduled to appear in the Magistrates Court in Labasa today, facing multiple charges related to burglary and aggravated robbery. Their alleged involvement includes a series of break-ins that took place in the Labasa area between December 5 and December 31, 2024.
The police report outlines that on December 5, the trio allegedly broke into the home of a 43-year-old self-employed man in Bocalevu while he was away with his family, stealing valuable items totaling $1,104, which included 5 kilograms of Yagona, mats, and bags.
The following day, on December 6, they entered the residence of a 50-year-old farmer from Vuniqari in Tabia, who was also attending a wedding. During this incident, items valued at $18,894 were taken, including jewelry, clothes, mobile phones, and perfumes.
On December 13, they reportedly targeted another house belonging to a 43-year-old self-employed woman in Bocalevu, stealing shop items worth $3,217 while she was away for the same wedding event.
A particularly alarming incident occurred on December 20, where the suspects allegedly threatened a 60-year-old woman and her 2-year-old granddaughter with a cane knife while stealing goods valued at $6,372.
Lastly, on the morning of December 31, the suspects broke into a home of a 54-year-old farmer in Bocalevu while the family was asleep. They reportedly removed louver blades from a window and stole items worth approximately $1,817.
It is hoped that today’s court proceedings will send a strong message about the consequences of such criminal behavior, emphasizing the importance of community safety and the protection of individuals and families in Labasa.
