Allegations of bullying and illicit drug use have once again come to light at one of the country’s leading boys’ schools. Recently, a handwritten letter was shared on Facebook, highlighting troubling claims that senior students have been coercing junior students, particularly kitchen staff, into stealing food and participating in illegal activities. The letter accuses these seniors of utilizing the younger students as “lookouts” during their drug-related actions, along with committing monetary theft and subjecting them to physical abuse.
In response to these serious allegations, former students, including Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources Filimoni Vosarogo, have called for an investigation and immediate action. They emphasize the need for a thorough inquiry into the school’s disciplinary processes, especially considering that corporal punishment is no longer tolerated.
Rabuka expressed confidence that the Minister for Education is aware of the situation and will address it within the Cabinet. Vosarogo has urged for open discussions among stakeholders at the school, believing that proactive measures are essential to restoring QVS’s reputation as a nurturing environment that fosters quality leaders.
This is not the first instance of the school facing scrutiny over allegations of bullying.
