The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs have announced Brayden Wiliame as the new Head Coach for their NRLW team as they prepare for the 2025 season. Wiliame, who previously worked with the New Zealand Warriors in pathways and wellbeing, has signed a two-year contract with the Bulldogs.
At just 32 years old, Wiliame brings a wealth of experience, having played over 125 NRL and Super League games and representing the Fiji Bati in nine Tests. His extensive playing background is expected to provide valuable insights and guidance to the Bulldogs’ women’s program. General Manager of Football Phil Gould expressed his enthusiasm for Wiliame’s appointment, noting how his elite-level experience will be beneficial for the team.
Wiliame concluded his playing career in 2023 after facing injuries during his time with the Warriors. He previously enjoyed stints with Manly Warringah and St George Illawarra in the NRL and had a remarkable tenure in the Super League, highlighted by his contribution to Les Catalans’ victory in the 2018 Challenge Cup final.
This transition to coaching represents a positive step not only for Wiliame as he embarks on a new chapter but also for the Bulldogs as they aim to strengthen their women’s program with his leadership. Given the club’s increased emphasis on nurturing local talent, including their partnership with the Kaiviti Silktails, Wiliame’s appointment could play a pivotal role in further enhancing the development of women’s rugby league in the region.
The Bulldogs have been actively increasing their ties with Fiji, particularly with the signing of Fiji Bati players and initiatives aimed at developing rugby league talent in the region. As they look toward the 2025 Pacific Championships, the addition of Wiliame as the NRLW Head Coach reaffirms their commitment to fostering a diverse and talented sporting environment.
