The Bula Boys football team has commenced the latest phase of their preparation for the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, departing from Fiji to New Zealand. This time, the squad consists of 14 local players and 14 overseas-based players, all coming together for training in Auckland, leading up to the selection of the final 23-member team set to travel to Wellington by March 12.

Team manager Kartik Reddy has made it clear that all players must earn their place, as no one’s position is guaranteed. This approach is designed to evaluate the best possible squad for the upcoming qualifiers. Reddy stated, “This phase gives us the opportunity to see the best possible squad available, as no one’s place is secure until the final squad is named.”

The Bula Boys are aware of the challenges ahead, particularly against the professional experience of the New Zealand All Whites. However, they maintain a positive outlook, driven by the desire to demonstrate their skills on the international stage. In preparation, they will engage in three crucial warm-up matches, starting with Auckland United FC on March 8, followed by Eastern Suburbs AFC on March 9, and concluding with an encounter against A-League side Wellington Phoenix on March 15.

The team’s commitment to improvement is further reflected in the structure of their training sessions and the inclusion of both talented players and fresh faces. As they gear up for the critical match on March 21 at Sky Stadium in Wellington, optimism remains high among the players and fans alike, with hopes of making a historic mark in Oceania football.

The past challenges faced by the team, including lateral setbacks such as player injuries, have only strengthened their resolve. The integration of new players and the emphasis on teamwork indicate a hopeful future for Fijian football, as they pursue potential World Cup qualification – a significant feat for an Oceania team. The excitement surrounding the Bula Boys suggests that they are well-prepared and eager to rise to the occasion.
