The Bula Boys secured their second win in New Zealand with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Eastern Suburbs. Midfielder Setareki Hughes sealed the win for the team, coached by Rob Sherman, by scoring the only goal of the match in the 80th minute.
Following the match, Team Manager Kartik Reddy acknowledged the tough competition posed by the NZ Premiership club. “It was just another opportunity to test ourselves in a game situation after working on things during the week in training,” Reddy commented, emphasizing the importance of these matches for assessing the team’s progress.
Reddy also highlighted that the squad made notable improvements but recognized there is still room for growth in certain areas, which the coaching staff will focus on in upcoming training sessions. “The entire squad again got a chance to play as we try to get the best possible combination together for the All Whites game,” he said, referring to their upcoming World Cup Qualifier.
Unfortunately, not all players were available for selection, as Gabriel Matansiga, Scott Wara, and Brendan Mcmullen were sidelined due to flu symptoms.
Looking ahead, the Bula Boys are set to face Wellington Phoenix in their final friendly before the crucial semi-final qualifier against the All Whites on March 21, 2025. This match is highly anticipated and serves as an essential opportunity for the team to refine their strategies and solidify team cohesion.
With the blend of local and overseas talent, there is optimism around the Bula Boys’ potential for success in the upcoming qualifiers. This hopeful outlook not only reflects the team’s preparation but also demonstrates the enthusiasm of fans who are eager to support their national team in this important phase of their journey.
