The Hydro Bukuya rugby sevens team overcame significant challenges to triumph in the Bowl Final of the Mick’s Fiji Tours & Transfers Vatulele 7s, defeating Saint John Lomary 15-12 at the Vatulele District School ground. Despite the absence of proper training equipment and support from their hometown of Bukuya, Magodro, Ba, the team’s determination and faith played a crucial role in their success.
Team manager Vereti Malasebe expressed deep gratitude after the match, acknowledging the lack of resources during their preparation. “We trained without proper equipment or mattresses, relying only on a few cones and rugby balls, which made our victory even more special,” he said. Malasebe emphasized their thankfulness to the Lord, attributing their win to divine support.
Looking to the future, the Hydro Bukuya team is now setting their sights on upcoming tournaments, including the Coral Coast 7s, demonstrating their resilience and commitment to the sport.
