Bua Rugby Union has appointed a new executive team as it charts a renewed course ahead of the 2026 season, announcing changes at its recent Annual General Meeting that leaders say will sharpen governance and on-field standards across the district. The new line-up names Sela Seru as chairman, Salimoni Poe as president (nominated and pending confirmation), Belasio Vukiwai as vice-president, Apolosi as treasurer and Meleti Balei as secretary.

Delegates used the AGM to take stock of the union’s recent season and to set priorities for the coming year. Members reflected on the 2025 club competition, acknowledging successes while flagging weaknesses that require targeted improvement. Central to the meeting’s deliberations were proposals to review the union’s constitution and to bolster the quality of coaching and officiating — measures union officials say are essential if Bua’s clubs are to lift standards and become more competitive.

Union administrators highlighted the completion of an audited financial report as a key achievement, presenting it as evidence of improved transparency and stronger financial management. Delegates described the completed audit as an important milestone that provides a clearer platform from which to pursue sponsorship, development funding and more disciplined budgeting ahead of the new season.

With governance and finances clarified, the executive and member clubs have set out priorities for 2026 focused on strengthening internal systems, developing human resources and lifting the overall quality of rugby in Bua. That agenda includes coaching development, better referee training and administrative capacity-building, with the union indicating that detailed implementation plans will be developed over the coming weeks.

The nomination of Salimoni Poe as president remains subject to formal confirmation by the membership, and leaders said further ratification steps will be taken as part of the union’s governance processes. Discussions initiated at the AGM are set to continue this week as the new committee and club representatives move from planning to execution, laying out timeframes for the constitution review and the roll‑out of capacity-building programs.

The leadership refresh in Bua reflects a wider trend across Fijian rugby unions and the national body, which over the past year have also undertaken board and executive renewals and placed renewed emphasis on governance reforms. Provincial unions such as Nadi and Tailevu have recently completed their own transitions, while the Fiji Rugby Union has likewise been reshaped in recent AGMs — a context union officials say underscores the importance of aligning district operations with national standards and expectations.

As the Bua executive begins its term, attention will turn to the detail of how proposed reforms are delivered at club level and how quickly improvements in coaching, officiating and administration translate into stronger performances on the field. The union has promised regular updates as it finalises the constitution review, confirms executive appointments, and rolls out its 2026 development program.
