Bank South Pacific (BSP) recently marked a significant development in its service offerings with the unveiling of its new Business Bank, dedicated to enhancing support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across Papua New Guinea. The launch took place at the BSP Gordons Commercial Centre in Port Moresby and is a key aspect of the bank’s ongoing modernization strategy.

CEO Mark Robinson highlighted that the Business Bank initiative represents BSP’s commitment to investing in the capabilities needed to better serve the country’s business community, from startups to more developed enterprises. This new service aims to facilitate mobile and accessible banking solutions tailored for business needs, particularly in remote areas.

A notable aspect of the launch is BSP’s partnership with Australian Business Volunteers (ABV), which will enable the bank to deliver business and financial education workshops nationwide. These workshops are designed to empower small business owners with practical skills in crucial areas such as cash flow management and marketing, thereby supporting the creation of sustainable business practices.

Raymond Logona, the head of the Business Bank, elaborated on the range of products and services tailored specifically for SMEs. Services including business accounts, tailored lending options, and mobile banking features are designed to support entrepreneurial growth. The establishment of a Business Bank Hive, which comprises specialists in various banking areas, underscores BSP’s intent to provide comprehensive resources for its business clients.

This initiative aligns with BSP’s recent financial successes; the company reported a 17% increase in net profit for 2024, driven by growth across its business segments. As it continues to expand its support for SMEs, BSP’s actions reflect a broader commitment to fostering economic development and financial inclusion throughout Papua New Guinea, ultimately paving the way for continued growth and prosperity in the region.

The positive emphasis on educational outreach and tailored financial solutions highlights the encouraging trajectory BSP is taking, not only to bolster its own operations but also to empower local businesses and communities.
