A recent ceremony honored Police Constable Sadamma and 37 other personnel from the Northern Division of the Fiji Police Force who received Long Service and Good Conduct medals. This recognition took place at the Labasa Civic Centre, with the Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew, presenting the awards.
PC Sadamma, who has dedicated 20 years to the Fiji Police Force, expressed pride and resilience in her role, highlighting the challenges of working in a predominantly male environment while also managing her responsibilities as a mother of three. She began her career at the Totogo Police Station in Suva before moving to the Lautoka Police Station, and she is currently assigned to the Sexual Offence Unit, where she primarily supports children and women.
Reflecting on her journey, Sadamma acknowledged the difficulties of balancing her varied roles but credited her family’s support and the understanding of her superiors for enabling her success. “I chose to become a Policewoman because I wanted to help others, especially women and children,” she remarked.
Sadamma’s story is a testament to the idea that women can excel in traditionally male-dominated fields when backed by determination and support. She encouraged young women to pursue careers in law enforcement, stating that achieving one’s goals requires hard work and perseverance.
This recognition is not only a personal achievement for Sadamma but also a broader indication of evolving perceptions regarding gender roles within Fiji’s law enforcement community, inspiring future generations to break barriers and chase their aspirations.
