The Office of the Divisional Commissioner North is taking important steps to prepare for potential wet weather conditions expected in the next 48 hours. Today, Divisional Commissioner Northern Uraia Rainima convened a meeting with team leaders from critical services, including the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA), Police, Fire Services, Ministry of Education, Fiji Red Cross, and Fiji Meteorological Services, as well as the Land Transport Authority, to finalize operational strategies and ensure that resources are available to support communities in need.

The FRA has reported that all connecting roads across the island are currently clear, and accessibility remains unaffected despite heavy rains overnight. Weather updates from the Fiji Meteorological Service have supplied valuable forecasts, allowing stakeholders to adjust their preparedness plans accordingly.

Residents in low-lying areas are strongly encouraged to take precautions by relocating to higher ground during daylight hours to minimize risks. It is advised to avoid non-essential travel at night, as this will enhance safety and limit hazards for first responders. Individuals uncertain about evacuation centers or in need of help are urged to contact local authorities or police.

Furthermore, Commissioner Rainima has called on farmers to secure their livestock and take preventive measures to protect their livelihoods. He emphasized the importance of safety during this time, urging everyone to heed weather advisories and updates via radio, and to act promptly to prepare, especially those residing in vulnerable areas.

“The safety of our residents is our utmost concern. Stay informed and take early action,” Rainima stated, urging calm and emphasizing the need for community support.

The Commissioner’s Office is committed to closely monitoring the situation and will provide timely updates as necessary.
