Sanaila Duono, a 26-year-old player from Nalidi, has set his sights on representing his nation in sevens rugby, emphasizing that there are no age restrictions when it comes to wearing the national colors. Duono recently participated in the R.C Manubhai Nataleira 7s tournament held at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori, where the PWD Bure team competed in the Tier Two division.

Duono expressed pride in the local sevens competitions, particularly the Nataleira 7s, noting that it serves as a vital platform for teams from rural villages. He highlighted the inclusivity of the team, stating that it represents all 14 provinces and is open to new players. In his efforts to form a competitive squad, Duono sourced talent from various regions, including Naitaisiri and Dawasamu, while also drawing from his local village.

Despite some players being away for the festive season, Duono believes in their potential to join the national squad in the future. He expressed gratitude to supporters and stakeholders for their contributions towards the team’s logistics and needs, which include food, transport, and tournament registration.

As for personal goals, Duono aims to enhance his fitness and overall readiness for upcoming competitions, revealing that he has faced injuries previously but remains optimistic about his journey. In their opening match, PWD suffered a defeat against Gau Kacau, with Duono acknowledging the need for improvements in communication and discipline on the field.

Drawing inspiration from former national sevens player Iliesa Nadai, Duono is determined to push forward and continue striving for success both for himself and his team.

In summary, Duono’s story serves as a reminder of the opportunities available in sports, especially for individuals from rural backgrounds. His commitment and determination reflect a hopeful future for local rugby, emphasizing growth and potential throughout the national landscape.
