Opposition MP Alvick Maharaj has urged the Coalition Government to clarify its plans regarding potential amendments to the 2013 Constitution, emphasizing the need for transparency to avoid fostering confusion within the public. During a recent session in Parliament, Maharaj expressed the Opposition’s readiness to collaborate with the Government for the betterment of all Fijians.

Maharaj highlighted the wealth of experience and education present among the Opposition members, asserting their commitment to working in unison with their government counterparts. He called for an environment where party politics would take a backseat, fostering a collaborative spirit aimed at tackling issues that affect the nation.

“Spreading conspiracy theories does no one any good. A small spark in Parliament can produce far-reaching smoke across Fiji,” Maharaj stated, stressing the importance of clear communication from the Government regarding proposed constitutional changes. He indicated that Parliamentarians have the capacity to convene and discuss amendments before any legislation is brought before the House.

This call for bipartisanship resonates with previous sentiments expressed within Fijian politics regarding the need for constructive dialogue and unity among leaders. Recent discussions have indicated a favorable shift towards collaboration, with other parliamentary figures advocating for inclusive public consultations as part of any legislative process.

Given the evolving political landscape, the potential for collaborative governance could pave the way for enhanced dialogue and understanding among leaders. This approach not only fosters a more democratic process but also gives hope for a political environment that prioritizes the welfare of all Fijians. As political figures work towards setting aside differences, the possibility of a united front on critical national issues is a promising development for Fiji’s future.
