A bench warrant has been issued for Sakiusa Tuva, one of the accused in a significant drug case involving the seizure of 4.1 tonnes of methamphetamine in Nadi last year. Tuva failed to appear before Justice Aruna Aluthge at the High Court in Lautoka during a recent court session. His lawyer noted that despite attempts to contact him, Tuva has been unresponsive.
Tuva is among a group of co-defendants, including Justin Ho, David Heritage, Louie Logaivau, Ratu Aporosa Davelevu, Jale Aukerea, Ratu Osea Levula, Cathy Tuirabe, Viliame Colowaliku, and Keanie McPherson, who are facing serious charges related to the unlawful importation and possession of methamphetamine, as well as other drug-related offenses.
In related developments, the Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, John Rabuku, submitted a detailed report regarding the destruction of the seized methamphetamine at a private crematorium in Nausori earlier this year. The report includes images and an account of the handling of the drugs between February 24 and February 28 and is key evidence for the upcoming pre-trial hearing.
The substantive hearing is set to take place from April 21 to May 23, with a pretrial conference scheduled for April 15. This case highlights the judicial system’s active measures to combat drug-related crimes and ensure public safety. Law enforcement’s ongoing commitment to addressing these offenses is a crucial aspect of maintaining community safety and upholding the law.
As this legal process unfolds, it reinforces the importance of a thorough judicial approach to issues of drug trafficking, ultimately contributing to a safer environment for the public. The next proceedings will be closely watched, reflecting the system’s dedicated efforts in seeking justice and preventing illicit drug activities.
