In a remarkable display of creativity and community spirit, a group of approximately 25 boys from Qauia Settlement in Lami, known as the Qe Black Qauia crew, are choosing rhythm over risk. The boys are actively engaged in performing a local tradition called qiri kapa, utilizing tin and drums to produce vibrant beats while one of their members showcases dance moves to entertain audiences.

This initiative, driven by local youth leader Peni Tuqalo, emerged as a proactive measure to finance school supplies and relieve financial pressures on parents ahead of the new school year. Most of the boys involved are still attending school, with the youngest being only in Class Six.

Peni emphasized the positive impact of this endeavor, noting, “Many young people are stealing these days as a way to get money, so this is a safer way for us as young boys.” Since the beginning of 2023, the group has gained increasing recognition within their community and nearby towns, performing at various venues to share their message and music.

Their dedication to traveling by bus to reach new audiences exemplifies their commitment to both entertaining and uplifting their community. By using their talent to raise funds for educational necessities, the boys are embodying a positive message of making constructive choices and proving that honest work can lead to rewarding outcomes.

In doing so, the Qe Black Qauia crew not only earns for their educational needs but also serves as inspiring role models for other young people in their community, showcasing that creativity can indeed pave the way for a bright future.
