Fijian Drua halfback Philip Baselala is determined to secure a top-three spot in the team’s lineup ahead of the upcoming Super Rugby Pacific season. At just 20 years old, Baselala is currently ranked fourth in the Drua squad, facing competition from seasoned players Frank Lomani, Simione Kuruvoli, and Peni Matawalu.

“This is one of my main targets for next season, which is to gain more game time,” Baselala stated. He emphasized the importance of healthy competition, mentioning how both Frank and Simi have motivated him to challenge himself, contributing to their overall fitness and enhancing their chances of earning a starting spot.

In the 2023 season, Baselala participated in two Super Rugby matches before injuries sidelined him for the remainder of the season. He faced a knee injury that kept him out of play and later had to undergo wrist surgery. However, he recently completed his rehabilitation and received clearance to return to the field.

Baselala’s commitment to improving and his competitive spirit bode well for his future prospects. With his determination and the support from his teammates, there is hope that he will make a significant impact in the upcoming season.

This situation is a reminder of the resilience shown by athletes, who often overcome challenges and setbacks to strive for success. Fans of the Fijian Drua can look forward to Baselala’s contributions as he works to solidify his place in the squad.
