The Suva Magistrates Court has granted bail to three individuals facing serious charges related to illicit drug possession and assault. The accused, Lemeki Baleiwai, 29, Maciua Jiuta, 27, and Asaeli Sususewa, 23, appeared before Resident Magistrate Krishnan Prasad for their hearing.
The court session was temporarily adjourned to enable the recording of surety details, as the magistrate had other matters to attend to. Baleiwai is specifically charged with possession of illicit drugs, while Jiuta and Sususewa are facing charges for serious assault.
As part of their bail conditions, each accused must report to the Lami Police Station on the last Friday of every month and must not contact any witnesses involved in the prosecution. Additionally, a non-cash bail of $300 has been set for each individual, and they are required to maintain a fixed residence as provided to the court. An order not to reoffend has also been issued.
The case has been scheduled for a mention on December 2 at 9:30 am.
This development highlights the judicial process in handling serious charges while ensuring that the rights of the accused are upheld. The court’s strict conditions aim to maintain community safety and integrity during the legal proceedings. It offers hope that justice will be served as the case progresses.
